Before New York’s upstart franchise became the Jets on April 15, 1963, sporting new colors (green & white) and announcing the hiring of Weeb Ewbank – they played with the moniker “Titans,” wore blue and gold uniforms, and called the Polo Grounds, in Upper Manhattan, home turf. Sammy Baugh became the Titan’s first head coach with a $28,000/year contract and flanker Don Maynard, who played a year in the Canadian Football League, became the first player to sign a contract. In three seasons, the NY Titans registered a 19-23 mark.

Amassing a 5-2 record in Titans throwbacks between 2007 and 2009, the Jets just celebrated their 50th season with an appearance in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game and appear poised to make a run at the second Super Bowl appearance in 2011….
